Hopelessly devoted.

The other day someone complimented an outfit I was wearing. I told them (because I am far, too proud of myself) that I'd gotten the whole thing for only a couple of dollars at a thrift store. Pleased, she pointed out the blouse she was wearing, and her lovely dress-suit, telling me she scored the whole thing from bins and super-sales at the local donation center. Hooray for finding a kindred spirit (plus she has three sons, although they're grown).

My latest find includes this floral bag. I use it for church since I pack along an entire book collection each week.

Oh, I just thought of another great story about my quirky attire! So on Halloween I dressed up like bug-collector, with super nerdy glasses and a explorer's hat... the whole works. A young boy, about twenty years old, who is serving a mission for the LDS church in our area, comes up to me and says, "You know when you see someone and you're not sure if they're wearing a costume or not, and you don't want to say anything?" I thought he was talking about someone else. "Well, on a scale from 1 to 10 of weird dressing, you're usually like an 8 but today you're a 9. So are you wearing a costume?" So funny. I looked down and realized that if I took the jar-with-holes-poked-in-the-top (that I had hanging from a rope around my neck) out of the picture, I could very-well have gone out for the day in total comfort.

I once thought that a person had to pick a style they liked and stick to it (preppy, emo, hippie, classic, hipster, yuppy, whatever). Now I just pick ANYTHING I like and stick it to myself, and that becomes a style of my very own.

I'm pretty sure that even if we ever have money coming out of our ears, I'll still be hitting the thrift-store racks, treasure hunting like a maniac. Yup.

Ooo, I would love to see your marvelous thrift-store finds! If you want to share, leave a comment with a link to a blog post about your favorite treasure and where you dug it up!

Happy hunting!

I LOVE thrift stores, flea markets, the like...

I can rarely find clothes that fit me though! I'm a 10 and apparently, that's a very popular size b/c they are just about all picked over... or may be I don't go at the right time...

LOVE your look!

What is a hipster? I am so far out of the loop, but I've been hearing this term a lot, and I'm not sure what it means. Please explain. I love the way you dress and that bag, so 1960's, I love it. I went to goodwill the other day and made out like a bandit, I love the thrift store too and I'm currently obsessed with Etsy.com and all the glorious boho vintage clothing.

my husband can not walk into a thrift store and come out empty handed. he hates all stores but the thrift store. i like to find a good deal too, but he's over the top. anyhow, we're poor college parents too (two kids). my lil sister (not poor) teases me about bragging about how inexpensive something is. she says only a poor person cares (doesn't stop me from bragging). so, you will be rich someday and you'll still shop thrifts, but you probably won't brag about how little it cost because it won't matter anymore... at least that's what i tell myself all the time :)
sheesh, sorry for the long comment

I LOVE our local Goodwill. I would say about 90% of my clothes are from some sort of thrift shop. Its so fun to find things that I know NO ONE else will be wearing. Plus its nice knowing that we are saving some major money!
This is a great post! The funny thing is, I was thinking I should see if Megan would go with me to Goodwill and give her a challenge of finding me some fun outfits....I wish I had your eye for fashion! :)
I love, love, love the costume story. Honestly that is so funny. Creative costume idea!
