just to run

There was a thunder-storm. I laid in my bed and watched the light flash through my blinds. As the rain finally became too much for the clouds to hold, it rushed at my windows, beating hard. I thought of the clouds. And what it might feel like to let go.
I had a sudden urge to jump up, run out my front door and keep running, fast and hard like the rain. The urge was accompanied by a rush of adrenaline and a feeling of complete freedom.

But then I remembered how tired I am. And I knew that I wouldn't be able to run further than a block or two away before becoming discouraged with my own inabilities.

I did go out after the storm and walk in the puddles. I am so pleased when I see my own bare footprints on concrete. It was a fitting consolation.
