we can make it.

this is only kindergarten.

finn gave us a fright when he walked out of his classroom, out of the school, through the neighborhood and home. all alone. in the middle of the school day.

if i applied to work scooping ice-cream and then found out i was actually hired to be the new CEO of Baskin Robins, it might feel something like this.

being a parent is a big deal.

what would i do without ______________?

1. my husband
2. my faith
3. my Savior

1. without my husband i would sit around regretting all of the things i do wrong. thoughts of inadequacy, failure, remorse and fear would weigh me down. his voice brings me up. his help gives me peace. he tells me i'm not crazy, and i need that.

2. without my faith i would be tossed on waves of fads and fazes. i wouldn't know where to turn for guidance and direction. i'd just flip flop around, parenting in tides. my faith is a steady beat. my faith calms the winds and rains and helps me to accomplish the impossible through tiny footfalls.

3. without my Savior... well, what's the opposite of hope? despair. doubt. discouragement. without Him those things would overtake me. my Savior calls me out of the darkness, beckons to me, leads me on. He reminds me that our children are His, too, and that we are not alone in our hopes for them.

through kindergarten and all the other trials, i know we can make it.

"I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up." (Doc and Cov 84:88)

you're so big.

color me a picture, dear.

make it yellow, or blue, or red, or pink.

i'll bet it will say, "evy mom i love" on both sides.

sit with me at the table, on the couch, in the car.

stand with me in the kitchen, about the garden, in front of the bathroom mirror.

follow me around the way you do and tell me everything about everything.

talk about your baby dolls and tell me again how you gave them all naps.

sing me every song that reminds you of another song that "goes like this."

go on and on, please, about the way life works and how you know.

look at me with those big, brown eyes.

make that funny face again, the one with crazy eyebrows.

then ignore me and let me just watch you a while.

let me try to make sense of what i'm seeing when i see you.

i'll ask if you're my baby girl and you'll say yes.

and then i'll be a little more confused because you're so big.
