The Prom Group

Five things about my sister and her friends that completely impress me:

1. They are thrifty. They wore nice suits or lovely dresses that they already owned or found at thrift stores, knowing that prom is one night, and they can have just as much fun in suits as tuxes.
2. They involve their families in their lives. Tamsin, knowing that my dad and I love floral design, asked us to make her date's boutonnière. My dad picked out the flowers and I put it together. I also ended up making boutonnières for two of the other boys in her prom group. They spend time with one-another's families, and don't mind one bit. They've come to the beach with us, among other places, and even just to our house for family night.
3. They dress modestly. It's almost impossible to find a prom dress that isn't low cut or so short that the girls can't even move without exposing their bums. Tamsin and her friends dressed with respect for themselves and the young men they were with.
4. They know how to have good, clean fun. They went mini-golfing together before prom and afterwards, the boys had their dates home before midnight. They are young, and they're alright with acting their age. They don't drink or party hard. They are admirable in their pursuits.
5. Their world is bigger than their own selves. These are the kids that spent the whole morning decorating for the prom when they could have been obsessing about their hair.
My husband and I went out to a park with them at night-time to take some fun pictures before the dance and they were lovely company.

If I could do high school over again, I'd be more like them.

wow that last one is so rockstar. how fun :)
I agree with that last bit. Of course, I don't know if there's many people who are truly happy about how they spent their high school years. The pictures are lovely, and your sister is beautiful in her dress.

I would be more like them too!!
I love seeing good happy modest young people making correct choices because they respect and KNOW who they are. I always think about my own children and hope they will be strong youth.

Beautiful pictures by the way!

tamsin is inspiring. i'm roughly the same age as her, but the way you talk about her makes me want to be a better person. she's bright, full of personality, and lovely. i want to be more like her.
