Adventurers, all. (And the best family date idea ever).

Here is where I'm going to brag about the totally sweet costumes I put together in about a half-an-hour on Saturday morning.

Be impressed.

Actually, my really cool kids (who have so much natural, mid-evil swagger) could make potato sacks look like the perfect period-appropriate garb for a renaissance faire.

The faire we frequent happens to boarder an old, Christmas tree farm, perfect for adventuring. On Saturday we ventured into the "deep, dark, scary wood" to fight dragon claws (blackberry vines), and hunt for snakes (a rope that Duke balled up and threw into the trees).

BEST ADVENTURE EVER. Without question. I hope they have vague, fuzzy memories of this one. Family folklore might transform this experience into an other-worldly, magical quest.

The below picture is a perfect representation of each of the boys' current, most common expressions.

You don't need a Renaissance faire to do this activity with your family. Just wander into an overgrown wood carrying kid-friendly weapons (and be sure to bring some creatures to battle or treasure to hide). Oh, and the surprise cupcakes we had waiting in the car for the end of the family quest were the hit of the event.

Enjoy, friends!
