the healer's art

i found a pet grave.

i've had an intuition nudge to dig in a certain spot in our yard since buying our house. each time i looked outside i thought, "i think there's something dangerous in that dirt right there."

so in went my shovel and up came a cat. sad day. the very next scoop pulled out a syringe with a needle attached. it was centimeters from the surface in a very child-accessible place.

when we first came here the neighbors were so glad to see us. (the house has been completely redone since its last occupants left and vacant for four years.) one of the neighbors told us that the old tenants were not very good people. I'd had that feeling, although the signs were few and fixed up.

we still feel we are in exactly the right place. we feel like we are bringing peace and healing to this house.

all afternoon while i worked digging up and inspecting every inch of dirt around the yard, i sang to my own brain. i sang a line from a song that may be familiar to you.

"I would be my brother's keeper;
I would learn the healer's art.
To the wounded and the weary
I would show a gentle heart.
I would be my brother's keeper-
Lord, I would follow thee."

the healer's art.

i thought of all the many arts i've tried to cultivate in my person. i dabble. i'm a dabbler.

the healer's art sounds like something worth looking in to.

ps- in the many hours i spent digging for other hazards i found nothing more than worms and weeds. i am so thankful for the inspiration i feel as a mother protecting my little loves.

This reminds me of our house. Our neighbors were so glad when we moved in. The last occupants ended up in prison, and were not good neighbors, to the point of throwing rocks through neighbors windows, etc. My husband and I say all the time, that we feed our house is so glad that we bought it and have been able to turn it back into a loved home. When we were cleaning up the yard today, I found a rusty metal plate just under the surface right under my daughters swing, eek! So glad I dug the dirt there a bit.
I loved this post. I love it even more because my friend was the first person to make a comment :) That hymn is so special to me, that verse in paticular is beautiful.
What a great story...I mean not the finding a cat and a syringe...gross!! But that you knew something was up with that part of your yard. We truly are blessed when we are open to inspiration! Your children are so lucky to have you!
